How to Choose the Right Metal Furniture Manufacturer in Pune

By A&I Vendor | Customized Metal Furniture & PVD Coating Specialists, Pune

A few years ago, a designer we know ordered a set of console tables from a vendor who offered the lowest quote in the city. The tables looked great on delivery day. Four months later, the gold finish near the edges had started to fade, and one of the joints had a visible crack. The client was unhappy, the designer had to apologise, and the whole set was redone from scratch with a different manufacturer.

This story is more common than people admit. Metal furniture looks simple from the outside, but a lot goes on behind it: the grade of steel, the quality of the welding, the finishing process, even how the piece is packed for transport. A wrong choice of manufacturer can cost you far more than the money you saved on the quote.

If you are an architect, interior designer, builder, restaurant owner or a homeowner searching for a metal furniture manufacturer in Pune, here is a practical way to go about it.

1. Start With the Material, Not the Price

Ask one simple question first: which steel are you using?

Stainless steel comes in different grades, and they do not behave the same way. SS304 is the grade most people want for furniture because it resists rust and holds up well in humid or high-footfall spaces. Cheaper grades can look similar when new, but they tend to stain and corrode sooner, especially in kitchens, restaurants, balconies and coastal cities.

A good manufacturer will tell you the grade without being pushed, and will be happy to explain why it suits your project. If the answer is vague, that is already a warning sign.

The same goes for thickness. Thin tubes and sheets are easier on the vendor's budget but harder on your furniture. A dining table frame that has to carry a heavy glass or marble top needs proper wall thickness, not just a good finish.

2. Check the Surface Finish Carefully

Finish is where metal furniture either looks premium or looks cheap. The common options are PVD coating, powder coating, PU coating and electroplating, and each one has its own place.

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is the one worth understanding if you want a luxury look. It bonds a thin metallic layer to the steel inside a vacuum chamber, which gives you finishes like gold, rose gold, black, bronze and champagne. Because it is bonded rather than painted on, it resists scratches, fading and tarnishing far better than ordinary coatings. That is why you now see PVD on hotel lobbies, boutique showrooms and high-end homes.

If a manufacturer offers PVD, ask whether the coating is done in-house or sent out to someone else. In-house coating means better control over colour consistency and fewer delays. You can read more about the process on our PVD coating services page, or see how it applies to local projects on our PVD coating services in Pune page.

3. Look at the Fabrication Setup

A showroom full of nice samples tells you very little. What matters is what happens on the factory floor.

When you visit (and you should visit), look for things like:

  • CNC fiber laser cutting and CNC bending, which give cleaner and more accurate cuts than manual work
  • Argon welding with neat, polished joints, rather than rough weld marks hidden under paint
  • A proper grinding, buffing and polishing section
  • Clean, organised work areas and trained fabricators

A workshop that is tidy usually produces tidy work. You can see the kind of fabrication we do at A&I Vendor on our fabrication page.

4. Ask Whether They Can Handle Custom Design

Most architects and interior designers do not want a catalogue piece. They want a particular leg shape, a specific curve, a custom size for an awkward corner. A manufacturer who only sells ready-made designs will struggle here.

The good ones have a design team or at least engineers who can read drawings, work with SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and make a prototype before going into full production. This step saves a lot of heartache, because you see and approve the piece before fifty of them are made.

If you are curious how this works, our design process covers prototype design, SolidWorks and AutoCAD drawings and design validation.

5. Verify Certifications and Track Record

Certificates do not guarantee good furniture, but they do show that a business follows a documented process. Look for ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, and ISO 45001:2018 if worker safety matters to you, which it should. A manufacturer who has been running for several years, with a visible list of clients and completed work, is also less likely to disappear halfway through your project.

A&I Vendor has been making metal furniture since 2016, and holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications. You can see what we have delivered on our projects page, including partitions and shelving.

Ask any manufacturer for photos of past work and, if possible, a reference you can call. Real clients are happy to talk.

6. Get a Clear, Itemised Quote

A quote that just says "Dining table frame, one lakh" is not a quote. A proper one should tell you the material and grade, thickness, finish type, quantity, packing, transport and installation, and whether GST is included.

When you compare two quotes, make sure you are comparing the same thing. A big price gap usually means a difference in steel grade, wall thickness or coating, not magic. If you want to understand how pricing for custom metal work comes together, our costing page explains the factors involved.

7. Confirm the Timeline and Delivery Process

Late furniture can hold up an entire interior project. Before you sign anything, ask for a realistic production schedule, and ask how the manufacturer handles delays.

Also ask about delivery. If your site is outside Pune, find out whether they have experience shipping and installing in other cities. We regularly supply to clients in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi, so we know how much care goes into packing metal pieces so the finish arrives without a scratch.

8. Match the Manufacturer to the Product You Need

Not every workshop is good at everything. Some are great at structural work like partitions and shelving but average at decorative pieces. Others do beautiful tables but have never built a bar chair frame.

So look at what they have actually made in the category you need. For example:

  • Dining spaces: dining table frames that stay stable under heavy tops
  • Living rooms: console tables and centre tables with a premium PVD finish
  • Cafes and restaurants: durable stainless steel chairs that can take daily use
  • Decor details: mirror frames in gold, rose gold or black

If you are after room dividers or decorative screens, check that the manufacturer has done similar metal partitions before, since those need very precise measurements on site.

9. Pay Attention to How They Communicate

This one gets ignored, but it matters. Notice how quickly they reply, whether they answer your questions properly, and whether they point out problems in your design instead of just saying yes to everything. A manufacturer who says "this thickness will bend under load, let's change it" is worth ten who nod along and fix it later.

A Quick Checklist Before You Decide

Before placing your order, make sure you can say yes to most of these:

  • They told me the exact steel grade and thickness
  • Finishing is done in-house or under their direct control
  • I have seen their factory, or at least detailed photos and videos
  • They can work from my drawings and offer a prototype
  • The quote is itemised and clear
  • They have certifications and past projects I can verify
  • The delivery timeline is realistic and in writing
